The eagle pose, also known as Garudasana, is a balancing yoga asana that strengthens the legs, hips, and arms, and improves focus and concentration.
Here’s how to do the eagle pose:
  • Stand tall: Stand with your feet hip-width apart, and your arms by your sides.
  • Bend your knees: Bend your knees slightly and balance on your right foot.
  • Cross your right thigh over the left: Cross your right thigh over your left thigh and bring your right foot behind your left calf.
  • Balance on your left foot: Try to balance on your left foot while maintaining your balance and stability.
  • Cross your arms: Cross your right arm over your left arm, then bend your elbows and bring your palms together.
  • Hold the pose: Hold the pose for a few breaths, focusing on your balance and stability.
Repeat on the other side: Release the pose, stand up straight, and repeat the sequence on your left side. It may take some time to master this pose, so be patient and focus on your balance and breathing. If you feel unsteady, you can practice with your back against a wall for support. Remember to always listen to your body and stop if you experience any discomfort or pain.

Benefits of Garudasana :

  • Improved balance and stability: The eagle pose helps improve balance and stability, strengthening the legs and hips.
  • Increased flexibility: The twisting and stretching of the arms, legs, and hips in this pose increases flexibility in these areas.
  • Strengthening of the arms and legs: The eagle pose requires a lot of effort from the arms and legs, helping to tone and strengthen these muscles.
  • Improved concentration: The balance required in this pose helps improve focus and concentration.
  • Improved circulation: The twisting and stretching in the eagle pose can help stimulate circulation and improve blood flow to the affected areas.
  • Relief from stress and anxiety: The twisting and stretching in this pose can also help relieve stress and anxiety levels.
It’s important to note that, like any yoga asana, the eagle pose should be performed with proper technique and care to avoid injury. If you are new to yoga or have any physical limitations, it’s always best to consult with a qualified instructor before attempting this pose.
